Matt has spent his whole life teaching, performing and competing in all types
of ballroom, Latin, country and swing dancing. He now uses that extensive
experience to teach all levels of students. Over the years, Matthew Karr has
literally taught hundreds of students, which has allowed him to develop and
refine his methods for communicating dance to his students in a way that enables
them to learn the dance moves faster and easier.
Matthew Karr's passion is to teach people to dance so they can go out and dance
with their friends, have fun and feel comfortable and confident. He wants
everyone to be able to enjoy the fun and benefits of dancing!
The Dance Studio - 1995 to Present - Valleywide
Teaching ballroom, Latin and country dancing. Beginning students are given
in-depth basics into dancing and general steps of interest to them. More
advanced students are given advance steps as well as technical and styling
instruction. Also choreographing and teaching routines for weddings and other

For 13 years, Mr. Karr owned and operated dance studios specializing in
instruction of ballroom, Latin and country dances. In addition to managing a
staff of instructors, Mr. Karr taught advanced students. During this period, he
participated in local, regional and national dance competitions with his
students, at which they received numerous awards. In addition, he competed
professionally and received awards in the California and Ohio Star Balls,
Fred Astaire Dance World -
1973 through 1981
Mr. Karr instructed all levels of social dancing, including Ballroom, Latin and
country. He participated in local, regional and national dance competitions,
both pro-am and professional, receiving hundreds of pro-am awards, numerous
studio awards, and various professional awards.
Fred Astaire Dance Studio -
1971 through 1973
For 2 years, Mr. Karr worked at the Fred Astaire Studio in Milwaukee, where he
studied all types of ballroom dance.
Milwaukee Ballet Company -
1971 through 1973
Danced with the Milwaukee Ballet Company, including productions of Coppelia and
Swan Lake (with Rudolph Nureyev).
University of Wisconsin -
1970 through 1972
Majored in dance, including ballet, jazz and modern.
